Pet urine presents a unique challenge. When it leaves your dog or cat, it starts out pH-neutral, but as it dries it turns increasingly alkaline, and this is what creates the ammonia odor. It also crystallizes as it dries. To truly eliminate it, you need both a product to break down the urine crystal and a natural enzyme that digests the proteins. Over-the-counter sprays won't accomplish both.
After 10 years of working throughout the Houston homes and 1,100+ five-star reviews, we've built our pet odor process around addressing urine at the molecular level, not just the surface. Every job starts with a UV black light and moisture meter so we know precisely what we're facing, then we tailor our treatment approach to the depth of penetration.
"We use UV black lights and moisture meters on every job to locate hidden pet urine before we treat it — not after." — Phillip Scott, Owner
This is where our process matters most. Most cleaners rely on guesswork and your input to locate issues. We verify. Before we touch a drop of cleaning solution, we sweep the entire area with a UV black light and use a moisture meter to verify findings at each suspicious spot.
Dried pet urine fluoresces under UV — even accidents that are years old. We sweep the whole area so nothing hides.
Tells us whether urine is surface-level or has soaked into the pad and subfloor — so we match the right treatment to the real problem.
Pet urine often travels beyond the carpet surface. The location where it penetrated determines which treatment approach will be effective. We'll identify the right solution during your free quote, backed by UV and moisture readings.
Our standard process for the large majority of pet odor jobs — effective on urine that's in the face yarn, backing, and pad.
When a pet has marked the same spot over and over, urine eventually soaks through the carpet and backing and starts absorbing into the subfloor. Topical won't fix that. This will.
Here's exactly what happens when we come out for a pet odor job — from the moment we walk in to the final UV check on the way out.
We walk through the areas with you, inquire about your pets and their history, and hear what you have to say. Most of the time you already know where the worst spots are, but sometimes the UV black light tells a different story.
Lights down, UV black light on. We inspect the affected rooms, locate every accident, and measure penetration depth with the moisture meter. You see the map before we touch anything.
Give the carpet a deep vacuum to eliminate pet hair and dry soil. Arrange drop cloths on the lawn, install corner guards at doorways, and get plastic tabs and foam blocks in place for the furniture.
We apply a specialized urine treatment that breaks down crystal formations and harnesses natural enzymes to eliminate odor-causing proteins. Store-bought sprays don't do either.
Our sub-surface extraction tool extracts urine from the carpet backing, pad, and face yarn fibers, not just what sits on top. We treat and extract repeatedly until all urine has been removed.
Our final step involves a complete black light check of every spot we've worked on. Any spots that still show under black light get treated again during that same appointment with no extra fee. It's the only method that ensures the job is genuinely done.
If the same spot has been marked over and over and urine has reached the subfloor, we escalate: pull the carpet back, remove the contaminated padding, clean and seal the subfloor so nothing can penetrate back through, replace the pad, reinstall, then finish with a full carpet clean.
Low-VOC, fragrance-neutral, and safe to walk on once dry — usually a few hours.
Many pet odor solutions on the market are more aggressive than needed. They rely on heavy fragrance, high VOCs, and residue that leaves your furry friends reluctant to return to treated areas. That's not us. Every product we use is specifically chosen to break down pet urine without harsh chemicals.

UPDATE: 10/24/25- (Another amazing visit! Jason did a wonderful job. The older review is still true) I was kept inform of the technician's arrival and he was on time. Super…
This was my second time using Scott’s carpet care. Jason is great! He came out both times and is so thorough and detailed oriented. Excellent work!
When we find it, we're able to treat it. Our sub-surface extraction tool pulls urine out of the face yarn, backing, and padding, not just the surface. Before we leave, we inspect every spot under UV black light. If anything still fluoresces, we treat it again on the same visit no extra charge.
That's what our restoration treatment is for. We pull back the carpet, remove the contaminated padding, clean and seal the subfloor so residual urine can't penetrate back through, then re-install the pad and carpet and finish with a full clean. Topical treatment alone won't handle subfloor contamination.
That's it. That's the guarantee. No forms to fill out, no hoops to jump through. If anything about our work doesn't meet your expectations, call us and we'll re-clean it — on the house.
Two ways to get started. Pick what's easiest for you.
