Fine rugs are engineered to be washed, fully submerged, thoroughly rinsed, and dried under controlled conditions. That's how they've been cleaned for hundreds of years, and it's how we still do it. On-site extraction is effective for wall-to-wall carpet. For an oriental rug, this approach only addresses the surface.
At our facility in Humble we begin with dusting each rug (a step that alone eliminates pounds of soil from aged pieces), perform a fiber ID and color-fastness check, and then wash the rug in a dedicated bath with fiber-appropriate chemistry. We run multiple rinse cycles until the water runs clear. We dry under controlled conditions to safeguard fibers, dyes, and shape.

This is what actually happens to your rug once it arrives at our facility — dusting, wash, rinse, dry, inspect.
Every rug goes through the same six steps. The chemistry and dwell time change with the fiber — the sequence doesn't.
We identify the fiber (wool, silk, cotton, synthetic), note construction (hand-knotted, hand-tufted, flatweave, machine-made), and run a discreet color-fastness test to check for dye-bleed risk. All existing damage gets noted and recorded with photographs.
Hands down the most-overlooked step in rug cleaning, yet also the most critical. A rug can hold several pounds of dry soil that you cannot see. Wet that soil and it turns to mud in the fibers. We remove every bit of it before water touches the rug.
The rug enters its own wash bath with a fiber-suitable cleaning solution. Gentle agitation lifts embedded soil, oils, and allergens out of the pile, not just off the surface. This is the method rugs should be cleaned with.
Repeated rinses flush out every bit of cleaning solution and suspended soil. Residue-free results keep the rug looking fresher over time.
The rug dries in our facility's temperature and humidity-managed environment, with temperature and humidity carefully managed to protect the fibers, dyes, and the rug's shape. Fringe gets hand-finished separately: it's cotton on most rugs and needs different care than the wool pile.
Once dry, every rug is re-inspected in daylight. We groom the pile, look for any remaining stains, and apply optional fiber protector if you've chosen it. Then it's wrapped and returned, ready for pickup, depending on your preference.
Removing pet urine from a rug is more challenging than virtually any other cleaning task, and this is why so many people choose professional cleaning over tackling it themselves. We run the same source-first process as our pet odor treatment, but with a key advantage: if the rug can safely take multiple wash cycles, we do as many as the job needs. For severe cases, see our pet odor treatment.
We come to you, roll the rug, and bring it back to the facility. When it's done we deliver it back, usually within a couple weeks depending on the size and the work required. No lifting furniture, no moving rugs yourself.
Prefer to drop off yourself? Bring the rug to our Humble facility during regular business hours and we'll take it from there. Same process, same guarantee.
Once your rug is clean, the fibers are open and cleared of buildup, ready to accept a fiber protector. It bonds to each fiber and creates an invisible barrier that buys you precious moments to address spills before they penetrate.
Ask about protector when you book — we'll quote it as an optional add-on, no pressure.
