Fine rugs are built to be washed, fully submerged, thoroughly rinsed, and dried under controlled conditions. That's how they've been cleaned for hundreds of years, and it's how we still do it. On-site extraction works for wall-to-wall carpet. For an oriental rug, surface-level cleaning is insufficient.
At our facility in Humble we dust every rug first (this alone removes pounds of soil on an older piece), do a fiber ID and color-fastness check, then wash the rug in its own bath with fiber-appropriate chemistry. We run multiple rinse cycles until the water runs clear. We dry under controlled conditions to safeguard fibers, dyes, and shape.
This is what actually happens to your rug once it arrives at our facility — dusting, wash, rinse, dry, inspect.
Every rug goes through the same six steps. The chemistry and dwell time change with the fiber — the sequence doesn't.
We identify the fiber (wool, silk, cotton, synthetic), note construction (hand-knotted, hand-tufted, flatweave, machine-made), and run a discreet color-fastness test to assess potential dye bleeding. All existing damage gets noted and recorded with photographs.
Without question the most-skipped step in rug cleaning, and the most vital. A rug can hold significant amounts of invisible soil invisible to the eye. Wet that soil and it turns to mud in the fibers. We extract all of it before water touches the rug.
The rug goes into its own wash bath with a fiber-appropriate cleaning solution. Careful agitation draws embedded soil, oils, and allergens from the pile itself, going beyond surface-level cleaning. This is how rugs are meant to be cleaned.
Successive rinses remove all cleaning solution plus the suspended soil, with rinsing continuing until the water runs clean. With no residue remaining, the carpet maintains its cleanliness longer.
The rug dries in our facility's temperature and humidity-managed environment, with conditions monitored to safeguard the fibers, dyes, and the rug's shape. Fringe gets hand-detailed separately: it's cotton on most rugs and requires different care than the wool pile.
Once dry, every rug is inspected again in natural light. We groom the pile, recheck for residual staining, and apply optional fiber protector if you've chosen it. Then it's packaged and sent back on your chosen delivery date, or prepared for pickup if you prefer.
Removing pet urine from a rug is more challenging than virtually any other cleaning task, and this is why so many people choose professional cleaning over tackling it themselves. We run the same source-first process as our pet odor treatment, but with a key advantage: when a rug can withstand multiple wash cycles, we complete however many cycles the restoration requires. For severe cases, see our pet odor treatment.
We come to you, roll the rug, and bring it back to the facility. When it's done we deliver it back, usually within a couple weeks depending on the size and the work required. No lifting furniture, no moving rugs yourself.
Prefer to drop off yourself? Bring the rug to our Humble facility during regular business hours and we'll take it from there. Same process, same guarantee.
Once your rug is clean, the fibers are open and cleared of buildup, ready to accept a fiber protector. It adheres to individual fibers to form a protective shield that lets you respond quickly to accidents before liquid sets in.
Ask about protector when you book — we'll quote it as an optional add-on, no pressure.
