Fine rugs are built to be washed — fully submerged, thoroughly rinsed, and dried under controlled conditions. That's how they've been cleaned for hundreds of years, and it's how we still do it. On-site extraction works for wall-to-wall carpet. For an oriental rug, it barely scratches the surface.
At our facility in Humble we dust every rug first (this alone removes pounds of soil on an older piece), do a fiber ID and color-fastness check, then wash the rug in its own bath with fiber-appropriate chemistry. Multiple rinse cycles until the water runs clear. Controlled drying to protect fibers, dyes, and shape. Then a final inspection and optional fiber protector before it goes back to you.

Every rug goes through the same six steps. The chemistry and dwell time change with the fiber — the sequence doesn't.
We identify the fiber (wool, silk, cotton, synthetic), note construction (hand-knotted, hand-tufted, flatweave, machine-made), and run a discreet color-fastness test to check for dye-bleed risk. Any pre-existing damage is noted and photographed.
Easily the most-skipped step in rug cleaning — and the most important. A rug can hold several pounds of dry soil invisible to the eye. Wet that soil and it turns to mud in the fibers. We remove every bit of it before water touches the rug.
The rug goes into its own wash bath with a fiber-appropriate cleaning solution. Gentle agitation lifts embedded soil, oils, and allergens out of the pile — not just off the surface. This is how rugs are meant to be cleaned.
Repeated rinses flush out every bit of cleaning solution plus the suspended soil. We keep rinsing until the water coming off is clean. No residue means the rug stays cleaner longer, with no leftover chemistry to attract fresh dirt.
The rug dries in our facility's controlled environment — temperature and humidity managed to protect fibers, dyes, and the rug's shape. Fringe gets hand-detailed separately: it's cotton on most rugs and needs different care than the wool pile.
Once dry, every rug is re-inspected in daylight. We groom the pile, recheck for residual staining, and apply optional fiber protector if you've opted for it. Then it's wrapped and returned — scheduled delivery or ready for pickup.
Different regions use different fibers, dyes, knot densities, and weaving traditions. Our process adjusts to the rug — not the other way around.
The most renowned rug tradition in the world. Includes detailed Tabriz, floral Kashan, geometric Heriz, and tribal Gabbeh styles — each with its own weave density and dye palette.
Symmetric knot, bold medallions, and famous prayer rug designs. Wool-on-wool construction is typical — sturdy, forgiving, and built to last generations.
Angular, tribal geometric patterns from the Caucasus region. Coarser weave, highly saturated natural dyes. Dramatic graphics, very collectible.
Central Asian tradition with distinctive "gul" medallions on deep red grounds. Dense weave, often small, extremely durable. Careful washing preserves the patina.
Senneh loop knot construction, often with contemporary designs. Lustrous highland wool takes color beautifully — but benefits from gentle chemistry to keep its sheen.
Low-density weave, often carved pile and silk detailing. Subtle palettes, classical motifs — dragons, cloudbands, floral. Needs careful dye testing before wash.
Hand-knotted wool with tribal geometrics — often very thick pile, deep reds and blues. Sturdy, family-heirloom pieces that respond beautifully to a proper wash.
Contemporary hand-tufted and machine-made area rugs in wool, synthetic, or blends. Same care, scaled — fiber-appropriate chemistry, thorough rinse, controlled dry.
Pet urine is the hardest thing to remove from a rug — and the single biggest reason to bring one into the shop instead of cleaning it at home. We run the same source-first process as our pet odor treatment, but with a key advantage: if the rug can safely take multiple wash cycles, we do as many as the job needs. On-site, you get one shot. In the facility, we keep going until it's right.
We come to you, roll the rug, and bring it back to the facility. When it's done we deliver it back — usually within a couple weeks depending on the size and the work required. No lifting furniture, no moving rugs yourself.

Once your rug is clean, the fibers are open, free of residue, and ready to accept a topical protectant. It bonds to each fiber and creates an invisible barrier that buys you time to react before a spill soaks in.

Typical turnaround is about one to two weeks from pickup to delivery. Pet urine jobs that need multiple wash cycles can take a little longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline at pickup — not a rushed one that skips drying time.
For most rugs in a typical home, every 2–3 years is the right cadence. Rugs in entryways or heavy-traffic hallways are better on a yearly schedule. Pets, young kids, or a specific spill mean: as soon as you can get it in.
Most will. A few won't. In some cases urine has permanently altered the dyes or damaged the fibers — that damage was done before the rug got to us and it can't be undone. If we see signs of that at inspection, we'll tell you before we start so you can make an informed call on whether to proceed.
Yes — and fringe gets its own hand-detail step. Most rug fringe is cotton, which behaves differently from the wool or silk pile and needs gentler chemistry. We won't leave dingy fringe on a clean rug.
Hand-knotted rugs are woven knot-by-knot on a loom — these are the most valuable and most durable, built to last generations. Hand-tufted rugs are made with a handheld gun into a backing and are glued — they clean well but have shorter lifespans. Machine-made rugs are mass-produced on power looms — perfectly fine for modern area rugs. Our process adjusts to each.
Yes — every rug gets a color-fastness test before anything else happens. If dyes are unstable we use dye-bleed-stop chemistry, lower water temperatures, and a controlled-rinse approach to protect the colors. If a rug is so unstable that washing isn't safe, we'll tell you and recommend an alternative.
